Return to School Letter

Dear Parents and Guardians:

As we progress towards the start of the 2020-2021 school year, preparation for a safe return of students and staff has been our focal point throughout the summer break. As required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, we are currently developing our District Health and Safety Plan. The plan will include educational and operational changes to ensure the health and safety of the entire school community to the greatest extent possible.

The District Plan will be designed to provide flexibility for changes that may be determined by legislature, PDE, and/or Health Department Guidelines. Assuming that our area continues to be designated in the “green or yellow phase” level, we do plan to provide all students with the opportunity to attend school in person. We would follow the school calendar previously approved by the Board of Education. The approved calendar can be found on the JV Hornets website. If our areas designation would change to an increased caution level such as “red”, remote education plans will be implemented. Our plan will be recommended to the Board for approval at the beginning of August.

Following approval of our plan and prior to the start of school, Parents and Guardians will be given the opportunity to meet with district personnel to review health and safety precautions that will be implemented during in-person instruction. Parent/Guardian meetings will be listed on the district website with tentative dates and times listed below.

Parents and Guardians who choose to have their child educated remotely (full on-line instruction), will be provided the opportunity to do so. We understand that some students may have pre-existing health conditions and/or parents and guardians simply feel more comfortable with remote learning education during these conditions. Parents who decide upon the remote education choice should contact your child’s school.

In conclusion, thank you for participating in our recent parent/guardian survey. The results will be used to help us better prepare to continue providing quality educational opportunities for your child.

Parent and Guardian meetings are tentatively scheduled for the following dates and will be held in the High School Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.

Kindergarten through Grade 2- Thursday, August 6th.

Grade 3 through Grade 5- Monday, August 10th.

Grade 6 through Grade 8- Tuesday, August 11th.

Grade 9 through 12- Thursday, August 13th.

Sincerely,

Michael Zinobile
